Kogin Stitch Pattern Design Just Got Easier

2026.06.04

Introducing Two New Tools from koginbank

Where do you begin when you’re thinking about a new kogin stitch design?

Maybe you flip through a collection of modoko. Maybe you trace an existing pattern, or pull out some graph paper and a pencil. There’s joy in each of these approaches — and a wall in each of them, too.

Today, koginbank is adding two new tools to help make that wall a little easier to climb.

Made Together with AI

Both of these tools were built in collaboration with AI.

Since the earliest days of koginbank, I had been dreaming of building something like this. But the cost of development was always a wall. The idea stayed tucked away in the back of my mind for years. Then this year, with the help of AI, it came to life in just a few hours.

Two feelings hit me at the same time: a sinking “what was I doing all those years?” and a delighted “I can’t believe it actually worked.” A strange and wonderful combination.

But I’ve come to think that all those years of refining the idea — clarifying the conditions, understanding exactly what I wanted — were what made it possible to give the AI clear enough instructions to get it right. A long-held dream isn’t wasted time. It becomes the foundation for something real.

Modoko Generator ── A Tool for Discovering New Modoko

Kogin stitch has a long history, and within that history, an enormous number of modoko have been created. Chances are, the modoko you’ve stitched represent only a small corner of that world.

Modoko Generator is a tool that automatically creates modoko following the rules of kogin stitch — all you do is enter a keyword and set the size.

Think of it as going for a walk in an unfamiliar neighborhood and stumbling upon a shop you never would have found on purpose. Type in a word that sparks something for you, and see what appears.

If you’ve been wanting to try a new pattern, or haven’t yet decided on the modoko for your next piece, this is the tool to open first.

Pattern Design App ── A Tool for Building Your Own Design

The second tool has a different personality.

Every kogin stitch project comes with its own set of conditions: the size of the fabric, the color of the thread, the shape of the finished piece. Translating a vision — “I want this particular modoko arranged like this, for this pouch” — into an actual working pattern is its own kind of work. That’s where this app comes in.

The Pattern Design App is a tool for drawing original kogin stitch patterns based on the specific requirements of your project.

Which One Should I Use?

The short answer:

“I want to discover a new modoko” → Modoko Generator
“I want to design a pattern for a specific project” → Pattern Design App

These two tools aren’t in competition — they can work together. Find a modoko you love in Modoko Generator, then bring it into the Pattern Design App to work out the placement and layout. That kind of flow is very much possible.

More Tools, More Possibilities

Stitching by hand. Taking the time. None of that changes.

But if the thinking and planning that comes before the needle touches the fabric gets a little easier, more pieces can be made, and more people can find their way into kogin stitch. That’s the belief behind these tools.

Please explore them freely — and stitch something wonderful.
